Series: Himitsu no Hanazono (Japanese drama)
Characters: Hinata & Takumi
Word Count: 1397

Not many people seem to have heard of this series, but its a cute one, so you should look it up on Veoh. Hinata is played by Hongo Kanata and Takumi is played by Yamamoto Yusuke XD I'm not sure why, but I felt the overwhelming need to write this.

There were many things that Kataoka Hinata disliked. Many things that he found annoying, repetitive, stupid, or not understandable. Many of these things had to do with people. He disliked swarms of people gathered in one place, marveling over the same pointless things, he disliked people that screamed over little things, he disliked people that had no original thoughts of their own. He disliked people that did not understand anything that did not have to do with them. He disliked unintelligent people, the sort of underlings that would never really have any sort of standing. He disliked that most people were all the same - unremarkable, annoying.

That was why he found the dolphins at the aquarium near his home amazing. When those people that all seemed the same looked at the dolphins, all they saw were unintelligent creatures that looked the same, which is how Hinata viewed those people. Hinata knew better than they did.

The teen held his hand up to the glass separating him from those magnificent creatures. He and his brothers had the day off from working on their manga, to rest from the persistent questions of the reporters following them. They had left their apartment at four o’ clock that morning, to slip out by the reporters and to check into a hotel for the day - to relax.

The aquarium was where Hinata came to relax himself, to escape from the various stupid people around him, and to encase himself in the wonders of other life forms, escaping the reality of the mass of unintelligent lower beings called the human race.

“Ah… Kataoka!” He heard someone call his name, and he rolled his eyes. Did people have to bother him while he was attempting to relax as well as when he was trying to work? It was never ending. He hoped that whoever called his name had not caught the attention of the group of high school girls at the octopus display. Before glancing at the person who called him, he peered over at the mindless females, and sighed when he was sure they had not heard.

He could barely walk the streets now that his picture had been published in magazines and newspapers. He pulled his cap down to obscure his face, and he turned to finally acknowledge the person that had called his name. He sighed when he saw him - his classmate when he had been in high school, brought together again through a variety of coincidences, not that Hinata cared. “Takumi,” the teen said in a quiet voice with an annoyed edge to each word. “Could you possibly keep your voice down when shouting my name?”

“Ah, I’m sorry,” the taller teen said, bowing his head slightly in apology.

Hinata sighed in annoyance. Takumi looked pale and slightly unkempt, which Hinata attributed to his recent break up with the annoying girl that he had been dating - if their relationship could have been called that. Hinata remembered once how she had referred to the teen standing before him.

“He is more of a puppy than a boyfriend.”

It was, in this case, very near the truth. Takumi was what might be called a pushover. He had listened to her every word, done everything she had ever commanded of him, and took every word of abuse that left her mouth without protest, yet she somehow was dissatisfied with him and dumped him for Hinata’s brother - who had been completely unaware of her one-sided love and had turned her down on the spot. Hinata thought that Takumi had really brought his fate upon himself, but the teen acknowledged his ability to pledge his undying loyalty to someone and act entirely and selflessly on that loyalty to make someone happy. Was it really so bad to be a puppy? Dogs are fiercely loyal and aim to please, and will love one to the fullest extent at all times. Because of this, Hinata felt a small form of sympathy for the teen, but regardless, Takumi was still just another idiot within a mass of multiple idiots.

Now that Hinata thought about the matter, it really was “Misuzu-chan’s” fault that he constantly had people bothering him, and although she learned the error of her ways, after she sold out any information she could find about the Kataokas’ pasts, and the family had forgiven her, Takumi was still too good of an idiot for her.

“Is that Hinata-kun!?” Someone yelled in a high, shrill voice, and what Hinata had been dreading came to be.

The aquarium was filled with the sound of young girls screaming in excitement, and Hinata was surrounded by a massive swarm of people, all of them pushing each other to get closer to him, pulling, hitting, doing anything they could just to see him or to touch him. His back hit the glass wall behind him, and there were so many people around him that he could barely breathe. He could feel the claustrophobia ascending, the panic in his mind rising, and as loud as he shouted, no one would listen - no one wanted to hear him.

There were hands everywhere, trying to grab any part of him they could, so they could say “I touched Kataoka Hinata-kun!” to anyone they knew, to make anyone they possibly could feel jealous. Yet, as many small brains without thought gathered to form a giant group of thoughtless people, they could easily hurt that which they cherished. Hinata was crushed against the side of the aquarium, the dolphins at his back, and the girls crushing him from the front.

“What are you doing!?” He heard someone shout, the voice muffled by screams of excitement. “You’ll crush him!”

He felt a hand grab his arm and pull him, forcing their way past the tightly knit figures. Hinata closed his eyes and attempted to swallow the panic, and then they burst from the swarm of girls. Takumi did not stop for a single second as he pulled Hinata along with him, forcing their way past other oncoming masses.

“Hinata-kun!” Several voices shouted, and he was sure that if he turned to look behind him, he would see young girls pushing each other out of the way, climbing past each other to get a glimpse of him.

Takumi kept up a fast pace, pulling them through winding corriders until they reached a door with a sign overhead that said “Faculty only”. Undaunted, the teen pushed open the door, pulled Hinata through, and slammed the door behind them, locking it.

Hinata nearly fell to his knees, and Takumi held his hands against the door, jolting when he heard and felt them slamming against it. They both breathed heavily, standing motionless as the banging died down, and waited until the noise disappeared altogether.

“…ahhh,” Takumi said after a long pause to catch his breath. He turned his eyes to Hinata, and asked, “Do you have to deal with this all the time?”

The teen nodded. “They are always outside our home… usually my brothers are there to help.”

Takumi leaned his back against the door and slid down, sighing. He looked up to meet Hinata’s eyes and smiled. “You can call me whenever you want to go somewhere. I’ll come over and fend them off for your escape!”

Hinata allowed himself a very small smile in reaction, and he nodded. “…thank you.”

Takumi grinned, a huge smile that Hinata normally attributed to stupid people. “No problem!”

Even some idiots have their redeeming qualities, Hinata supposed. He glimpsed around the room they had wandered into, which was obviously a supply room, a large back room for storage of multiple humanly needs. Hinata looked over the teen before him, and spotted a gash on his forearm. Wordless, Hinata wandered away from Takumi and browsed through the shelves, stopping when he reached a rack of first aid supplies. Takumi walked up to him, “Hey, what are you-” He was cut off when a towel and a package of bandages was thrust into his chest. He stared after Hinata as the teen walked away, and he smiled.

Very rarely could Hinata find an exception to his dislike of stupid people, very rarely did he find an idiot that he could tolerate. There were many things that Hinata disliked. He disliked idiots… or at least the vast majority of them.
