So, um, what? More YYH? Whoops >.> This one was totally and completely random. I apologize. Jin and Touya are on their way to meet Kurama when he invited them to Genkai's to train them. For Yomi. Yes.

“I don’t see why we’re walking, Toy,” the demon groaned, floating along on whatever breeze came his way, whenever he got the chance. His bare feet barely scraped along the scorching desert sands below as he willed the air to gather around him and keep him afloat.

“We are not walking, Jin,” his companion said, muffled somewhat because of the large cloak that had been forcefully draped around him by the other demon during the beginning of their trek, keeping the sand from his skin and eyes. “I am walking, you are flying.”

“This isn’t close to flyin’!” The wind demon said, throwing his arms behind his head as he glanced up at the shimmering sky. “Flyin’ would be aaaaall the way up there, in the clouds, going really fast! I don’t see why we have to walk through this desert!”

“We are walking because I still have some of my shinobi pride left,” the ice demon said, even as his feet sank into the sands with each step. “I will not be carried around by you as a means of transportation.”

The wind demon groaned, but he was thankful that, in a place like this, his companion happened to be an ice demon. Unconsciously or out of pure habit, Jin did not know, Touya was able to pull any ounce of cold from the air to gather around him. If Jin stayed close enough, then the simmering heat of the desert air never could quite reach him. But it was obvious that the ice demon was having a bit of trouble on this difficult terrain. Touya was relatively light-footed, but even his feet, which Jin were sure to be frying, were sinking into the sands, and the air around him seemed to be warming up ever so slightly, as if he were running out of cold.

“I can still carry you,” the wind demon suggested for probably the tenth time.

“No thank you,” the ice demon said quietly, the same response he had been given for each inquiry. Jin groaned audibly, and was content to drift in silence to allow Touya to concentrate on his footing.

When Kurama had suddenly sent them a message, offering them intense, powerful training, Jin and Touya had both agreed to meet with him as both a chance to catch up with a friend, and as a chance to develop their skills further. However, their training was to be done in the Ningenkai, which meant that they had to meet Kurama at a secret location to be able to slip through the barrier between the worlds. This location happened to be across one of the Makai’s many great deserts. Had Touya not been so obsessed with his “shinobi pride”, Jin was sure that they would have already made it there.

But the wind demon respected his companion’s wishes, and he was somewhat impressed by the ice demon’s will (or was it stubbornness?) enough to stop him from simply scooping up the smaller demon into his arms and flying across this godforsaken volcano.

“You can go for a stroll, Jin,” the quiet voice said, pulling the demon from his thoughts. “Don’t let me hold you to the ground. I can meet you on the other side.”

Like hell he was going to let Touya trudge alone through this desert, with who knew what kinds of demons dwelling in the sands, ready to grab his ankles and pull him down. But maybe he would go for a small fly, and return right back to his friend’s side. That sounded reasonable enough. “I’ll be back in a little while, Toy,” the wind demon said with a grin. “I’m not meeting you on the other side, but I’m gonna fly a little while, okay?”

The ice demon nodded, or at least Jin thought he did beneath the hood of his cloak, originally Jin’s from the Ankoku Bujutsukai. With that small motion for consent, the wind picked up beneath his feet and he kicked off into the air, rising further and further into the clouds. Even hot winds felt refreshing when they went by fast enough, and the demon relished in his momentary freedom from the ground. This was where he belonged, where he was meant to be. If it weren’t for his friends, he would not be near the ground at all, playing with the birds in the skies instead.

But he would never blame any of his friends that were earthbound, he would never even think that he was trapped to exist below. Each and every one of his friends was well worth a little time away from the sky, and he would never take that time for granted. So while he needed some time to just ride the breeze, he was always happy to meet with his friends and spar with them, train with them. Demons lived much longer than humans, so he would always have plenty of time to ride the winds and enjoy the mists of the clouds he flew through.

Remembering Touya, pulling him back from his thrilling adventure in the sky, he without any hesitation or regret, pulled himself back into a dive, feeling the air increase in temperature as he dropped. Smiling, he closed his eyes in search of colder air, where Touya was bound to be. He frowned when the air surrounding him was all scorching. Had he really strayed so far from his friend? Widening his search to incorporate Touya’s aura, he felt his friend to his left, faintly, and he mentally scolded himself for wandering so far, and he took off in his companion‘s direction.

His grin slowly turned into a frown as he neared his friend’s life force and the air did not turn any cooler. It was not that Touya was far, it was that he had stopped gathering cold air for some reason. Jin pushed himself through the air at a faster rate as his panic began to build. Had he been attacked? Was he unconscious? Was he injured? He prayed into the wind that Touya was all right, that he was just playing with Jin by hiding his energy.

But Jin knew that, as he neared a figure lying in the sand, Touya was not one to play games such as that. Half-buried by the sand whipping around him, the cloaked demon did not move even as Jin approached him. The demon dropped to his feet by his friend’s side, panic dancing in cerulean eyes. “Toy! Hey!” He screamed over the building winds, placing his hands on his friend’s shoulders, turning him over onto his back. Was that pink set in his pale cheeks? Jin placed his hand on Touya’s forehead, and quickly pulled it away when his skin was met with heat rather than his normal chill.

“Shit, Touya!” He cried, abandoning his pet name for his friend in his fright.

Icy eyes opened in response to his name, and Touya glanced up at his friend. “Powerful demon, in the sands… be careful. Fly away.”

Like hell he was leaving his overheated friend to be some demon’s dinner. This was certainly no terrain for an ice demon to be in, let alone battle on, which the dark spots of wet sand suggested ice had been formed and battle had occurred.

“Why didn’t you whistle for me? I woulda come and helped!” The demon hissed, out of anger at himself more than Touya.

“You were too far away to have heard,” the ice demon spoke, difficult to hear over the building sandstorm. Touya pushed against Jin, attempting to get to his feet that only slipped in the sand. He propped himself on his hands and knees, refusing any help that Jin offered. “Toy, if we don’t get you cooled down, you’ll die!”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” the ice demon said, finally managing to stand.

Jin groaned loudly. It was stubbornness then, not the will he had previously admired. Jin felt something approaching them, and amidst protests from his companion, he grabbed one of Touya’s arms and threw it around his neck, gripping his wrist with one hand and grabbing the other demon’s waist with the other, kicking off of the ground as a demon burst through the sands they had just been standing in. The wind was wild now, whipping around them and slicing their skin with sand granules. The cloak fell from Touya’s shoulders and was mercilessly tossed into the storm.

As Jin attempted to glimpse the demon through the raging sand, he wondered why every day in the Makai was always one disaster after another. “Left!” Touya shouted over the roaring winds, and Jin used those winds to dodge what appeared to be a scorpion’s tail, albeit many times larger than both of them.

“Go higher!” The ice demon shouted, before he began to cough, inhaling sand.

Wind, don’t fail me now, the demon chanted inwardly as he soared upward through the raging sandstorm. He could feel the particles hitting his face as he tried to tame the severe winds to do what he willed. He could feel Touya at his side, his body convulsing from his coughing, and he gathered as much of the tempest as he could to break them through the tornado.

Suddenly, the winds gave way to clear blue, and without hesitating, Jin changed the direction of the wind to move them as quickly as they could across the desert to the safety of the trees on the other side. He felt Touya as his coughing slowed and then halted, and he inwardly cheered that the wind listened to him this time. He glanced at his friend as he smiled triumphantly, and Touya managed to smile softly in return before his eyes closed and his head fell to his chest.

The wind demon cursed loudly as he passed over the trees, moving himself closer to the white-topped mountains instead. When the air was sufficiently cold enough to chill his bare skin, he slowly set his bare feet down in the untouched snow. Touya’s limp legs bent as they touched upon the ground, Jin kneeling down to settle him into the snow.

“Cool down, Toy,” The wind demon whispered to his companion, his breath now visible in the frigid air. Even as he began to shiver, he kept his eyes fixed upon Touya’s face, waiting for something to show him that the exposure to the overwhelming desert heat had not done any permanent damage.

Rubbing his own bare arms, Jin smiled widely as he felt the cold start to gather around them. He cheered in glee when icy blue eyes suddenly fell upon him, and Touya sat up in the snow, the pink tinge to his cheeks slowly disappearing. The wind demon could not resist the temptation to throw his arms around his friend in relief, ecstatic to see that he was fine.

“…that was fast thinking, Jin,” the ice demon admitted, attempting to push the happy wind demon from his body as it began to cool. “Going to the mountains…”

Finally, Jin pulled his arms back as he grinned widely despite the cold. Then he remembered that he was supposed to be annoyed with Touya, and he crossed his arms as he floated up off of the snow. “You stupid, Toy!? That thing would’ve eaten you or something, you lying in the sand like that!”

The ice demon blinked in surprise, sitting up straight. “…I’m sorry, I did not realize the toll of using my ice in combat in the desert. I apologize.”

The wind demon was surprised at how easily that came. Although Touya was quick to admit when he was wrong, his stubborn attitude today had made Jin think he would be a little more difficult. “Well, okay, apology accepted!” He said with a grin, proud that his companion admitted his mistake.

The ice demon got to his feet, and Jin frowned a bit when he sensed how low his friend’s energy had become, but he was mostly back to normal. The wind demon was amazed what a little chill could do for an ice demon, but it seemed to work as amazingly as the wind did for him, so he did not question it.

“Hey,” Touya said after a while, making his way through the snow covered trees. “Think that sand demon is still there?”

“Probably,” the wind demon said, grinning. “But we’ll have to come this way to get back in when we come back. We’ll get ‘im then!”

“When we’re stronger,” the ice demon said, a small smile on his pale lips. Jin knew that he meant when he could walk through a desert without overheating.

“Yeah!” The wind demon exclaimed as the trees began to become less white as they descended. “Then he’ll be sorry he messed with us!”

As the snow faded and the trees became green, they could soon spot a patch of red through the leaves. Touya smiled at the sight of his friend’s exotic hair as they neared him, and he smiled softly in response to his companion’s grin.

“When we’re stronger.”
